The City of Moose Jaw has an infrastructure crisis. The Local Improvement Program (LIP) was a short term fix. Cast iron water mains may be the most immediate infrastructure issue, but it is not the only one.
The major problem with the LIP, beyond the potentially crippling financial burden it places on select property owners base solely on where they live, is that City of Moose Jaw bridges, streets, sidewalks, sewer mains, public buildings and other facilities continue to deteriorate. The current council has blamed their predecessors for deferring the cast iron water main work while they themselves deferring important maintenance of other City infrastructure.
The LIP is not a viable solution because it leaves future councils similar problems.
We need a long term and sustainable infrastructure plan.
